How to Stretch Your Shopping Dollars

How to Stretch Your Shopping Dollars

Shopping consignment truly is the most economical and savvy way to shop for your children.  Why shop at department stores and malls and pay more for 'no-name' clothing when you could have Tommy Hilfiger or Gymboree for less and support local shops and small business owners?

All of our items have been hand selected to ensure that they are flawless, top quality, name brand items that we can be proud to sell. We accept only items that show little or no signs of wear and are in like new condition.  Many of our items are brand new with tags still on them, but are priced way below retail.

Whether buying for your own family, a friend or for a special gift, we're confident that you'll be pleased with our selection, quality and low prices.  Shopping at the Baby Bin Boutique is guaranteed to give your kids a stylish and trendy brand name wardrobe at prices your wallet will thank you for!

What to Do with Unsafe Items

If you have something you’re concerned isn’t safe, destroy it – dismantle it and take it to the city dump. If you have something that could be useful and you know is safe, such as a car seat, some charities will accept used car seats to be inspected and then given to needy families.

The Baby Bin Boutique is happy to accept and donate these items on your behalf at any time. Just give us a call so that we know when to expect you! #487-4687

Finally- please keep in mind that The Baby Bin Boutique carries a great selection of current brand name baby gear, clothing, educational toys and books.

We take the guess work out of the equation for you when consigning and or buying these essential items from us. Feel confident knowing that we have checked all items for recalls for you prior to placing them on our sales floor- after all we are parents too!

Finally- wanted to share an article with you...something I feel strongly about......

Shopping local and independent sounds nice, but we CANADIANS like to save a buck. We like convenience. And, judging from the proliferation of big box chains, we like consistency.

So why go out of our way to ‘shop-local-first’? It goes like this: when you spend your dollars at an independent, local business, you keep more money in your hometown—supporting your community’s social services, schools, your public library and local non-profits.

How so? Locally-owned businesses return about 80% of each dollar to their community. And each dollar spent at a local business will return up to five times that amount within your community through city taxes, employees’ wages, and purchases of materials, supplies and services at other independent businesses.

Chains and franchises, on the other hand, contribute roughly 40%, and as little as 20% of sales back to your community. And many big boxes, such as Walmart or Toys R Us, are given tax-incentives by local governments—costing you far more than the discounted price you think you’re paying.

Ever wonder why you can’t find a particular product in the national stores? Well, most national chains like the look of “sameness” from one store to the next. They can’t have their ear to the ground and their roots in the community, in the same way as mom n’pop shops. So the choice is made not to place these sought- after locally made products in their stores .

When you make your purchases at independent, businesses you’re supporting people and services in your community, not corporations that all-toooften (but not always, thankfully) exploit natural resources and people for the good of the bottomline and their shareholders.

Now, most of us make purchases at a national store of some sort. But if we just make most of our purchases from businesses that are local, if we make the conscious decision to support our own community, more good things will happen to the town where we live. And where we live is pretty important.

Why? I like where I live. It has a character and a uniqueness that tourists swarm to because guess what? They come here for the unique, independent businesses—not the conventional stores they could find in any indoor mall.

The storefronts are unique, the coffee shops are different, and the merchandise is as varied as the locals who own and stock them. Independent businesses house independent minds that make different choices based on their creative, ear-to-the-ground mindset. And it is these choices that make a community interesting, diverse and attractive.

Thanks for supporting us!

Jenn and the staff of The Baby Bin Boutique!

Attention all those with a SHOE FETISH!!!!

The wait is over! Our selection of slippers and My Shoes has arrived, and they are even cuter than we imagined!! We're sure that you will agree that this new line of indoor/outdoor shoes for your little ones will fly off our shelves! Stop by today to check out this adorable new product- and pick up a couple of pairs while you can!!

What are we made of?Jack and Lily baby shoes are handcrafted using premium grade,'Lamb Touch' leather and skid resistant suede soles that allows developing feet to learn balance and build strength. We keep a watchful eye over every aspect of our operation to ensure our shoes keep babies looking and feeling good. For more information about our leather, click here

How to best use your little shoes?Although our baby shoes have been designed for both indoor and occasional outdoor use, we recommend avoiding rough outside surfaces that may wear out leather and our ultra-soft suede. We've designed our shoes to be naturally durable and because we don't use any potentially irritating coatings, our shoes are not waterproof and should be used only in dry conditions. If your Jack and Lily shoes do get wet, the color of our darker leathers may run. Don't be alarmed, simply wash and thoroughly dry your pair of shoes a few times before wearing them again. Jack and Lily baby shoes have been tested by babies all over the world!

Depending upon where you live and the time of year, you can use our baby shoes with or without socks. Our gently elasticized ankle helps keep babies socks on and add extra warmth.Although we have taken great care to ensure a comfortable secure fit babies come in all shapes and sizes. If you find that our shoes are too snug or too loose, the elastic can be adjusted easily by any handy mom or your local alteration shop.

Washable?Jack and Lily shoes are machine washable. To clean, wash periodically in cold water and separately, as dark colors may bleed. Partially tumble dry on a low setting, reshape and let air-dry.To extend the wear of your shoes, we recommend hand washing mild detergent or spot clean using a mild detergent and a damp cloth.

Baby Bin "Circle of Friends" Coupon until Dec 10th, 2008

How to Stay Green When Gift Giving

1: Choose organic clothing items. If you want to give clothes as a gift, look for items that come from organic and all natural materials. You can buy organic clothing for men, women and kids.

2: Buy gifts locally. When you shop at local stores, you're using less gas while also supporting the local economy. Consider looking for gifts at antique stores, consignment shops, farmers' markets and craft fairs.

3: Go green for the kids. You should pick gifts that encourage kids to think about their environment. Look for nature themed books and activities. You can also buy the Eco-Friendly Birdhouse Kit from Edu-Kitting Kids.

4: Donate to a charity on their behalf. You can also discuss forgoing traditional gifts and donating to a worthy charity. Consider a farm sanctuary or having a tree planted in the person's name.

5: Make your gifts. Homemade items crafted from recycled materials will touch your recipient. Consider making your own jewelry, toys, knick knacks and more for the recipient.

6: Avoid novelty and build on something your child already loves - additional pieces or an add-on for building toys, a coveted addition to a train set or doll's house, craft supplies for the creative child.

7: Give your time - our parents loved to get "coupons" for jobs or things we could do for them; use this same idea to give more of yourself to your child (make a date for the holidays or the new year).

8: Give something they need anyway - pajamas, an item for their bedroom or swimming lessons, and make the presentation special.

9: Share memories - with digital photography many of us aren't very good at printing family photos these days. Use this time of the year to prepare mini photo albums for your child(ren) with highlights from the past year (or a special trip or occasion) and delight in re-living those memories together.

10: Re-gift! - Re-gifting is the idea of taking a gift that you once received but now would like to pass along for someone else to enjoy. This is an excellent way to give new life to that interesting gift from a colleague or friend that didn't quite match your decor or a special toy that your children have outgrown.
